Tradition / specialty of the upazila

Tarash is an upazila in the middle of the historical Chalanbil. The challan bill is 33 km in length and 15 km in width. Chalanbil area consists of Tarash, Ulsnapara of Sirajganj district, Singra of Natore district, Gurmundaspur, Chatmohar of Pabna district, Faridpur and Bhangura upazilas. Chalon-sur-Sane is a lowland area. In the past, this bill was very deep and very dangerous. It is estimated that about 400 years ago, this bill spread over most parts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra districts, in the north-western part at the confluence of the Brahmaputra and the Padma. Over time, the bill has been filled with silt and villages have sprung up on its various chars. It would not be an exaggeration to call Chalanbil the navigator of the rivers of North Bengal in terms of location, shape and nature. The name of this bill is challan bill because the water of the huge bill is moving all the time.

The zamindars with the title of Roy, the aristocracy, the Kayasthas, the Nagas, the Sebaitas, and the Tarash, full of the Muslim tradition of the Mughal-Nawabi period. Zamindar Banamali Roy Bahadur brought many Santals and other tribals from the Santal Parganas of Chhota Nagpur, India, with the aim of freeing Chalanbil from the clutches of jungles and wild animals, and housed them at the Tarash police station. Among the other tribes, Singh, Urano and Mahato are notable. At present the total population of the tribals in this upazila is about 25,000.
